Scrappy Heart Quilt

ScrappyHeart

I was drowning in mismatched 6″ squares, so I came up with this cute scrappy heart quilt and thought I would share!

What you need:

  • 8 – 6″ blocks for background (to make HST and trim to 5.5″)
  • 16 – 5.5″ blocks for background (I trimmed my 6″ blocks down)
  • 8 – 6″ blocks for heart edge pieces (to make HST and trim to 5.5″)
  • 32 – 5.5″ blocks for heart

Take the 8 blocks for the background and heart and make HST (half-square triangles).  Trim those to 5.5″.

If you’ve never made HST, check out this tutorial for a quick way to make them: http://www.generations-quilt-patterns.com/half-square-triangle.html

You can also buy Omnigrid’s Marking Ruler Trio (which is what I use) to help.

Once you have your HSTs cut, you are ready to lay out your quilt. I use a design wall which is a fancy way for saying I stapled some cotton batting to my wall =)

You will have 8 blocks in 8 rows.  Sew the blocks into a row, then sew your rows together.

Now it’s just time to sandwich, quilt and bind! I found some perfect heart fabric from my stash and used free motion quilting all over.

This quilt finished at 39.5″ square.  Close enough 😉

I’d love to make some more variations, or post some other RMH CQ’s variations.  If you make one, send me a picture!
